A very curious, valuable, and highly interesting Special Report upon the "Number and Condition of Lunatics and Idiots in Ireland," as presented to Parliament in a General Report on the " Status of Disease" in Ireland, at the period of taking the last census for that country in March, 1851, is now before us. Before proceeding to the more particular object of the Report, it will be instructive to take a glance at the state of Ireland, in reference to any provision for the accommodation of the insane at an early period in the history of that country.
